WHY PEACE WILL NOT PREVAIL

SYRIA


The Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan, yesterday called upon all nations to unite to combat the unrest in Syria. Syria is as likely to become peaceful as Iraq, Afghanistan, The Sudan, Somalia, Yemen or Israel-Palestine, even if Assad may fall from power.


We live in an a-historical world with a very short and ethno centrical perspective. To put it bluntly, we are naive and ignore historical and essential demographical facts.


Syria, Iraq and Turkey have housed great empires, such as Babylonia, Assyria (the Akkadic Kingdom) Mesopotamia and the Ottoman Empire. The region, however, rests, since 6000 B.C. and earlier, on clan organized Nomad patterns of life, as do Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Northern Africa, except for Egypt, the Sudan and Somalia, inter alia.

VATILEAKS: Trivia or Scandalous? Please, enlightening me..

 

THE VATILEAKS

Why all the attention?


Before you react on the subject matter, please, take into regard that this short paragraph is principally a plea for a factual explanation of the repercussions of what is known as VatiLeaks and not an attack on Papacy or Catholicism.


I am aware that I enter deep waters when raising the subject of ”VatiLeaks”. The imprisoned Vatican butler may have spilled the beans of interior struggles for power, the interior tensions of the Curia and the anachronistic (as understood by my personal meagre knowledge) hierarchy of decisionmakers but I cannot for the life of me understand the sensationalism. What impact may the leaks have? The history of the Vatican has been far from impeccable and as a central power as oppressive or helpful as the conditions or the political ambitions have allowed.
